In early December 1998, the College of Optometry Houston University (USA) took an interesting public discussion: president of the International Association of Teachers of contact vision correction IACLE Professor Holden (Holden) and Dr. Cavanaugh (Cavanaugh) acted as "accusers" on the "business" of laser refractive Surgery. Advocates were Dr. Geese (Goosey) and Baker (Baker).
Prior to the debate, the participants were 89% for surgery and only 11% against. After disskussii survey the same persons brought the following results: transaction - 53% - against 47%. Thus we can say that the indictment failed to convince the majority of listeners that refractive surgery too dangerous or often does not lead to the desired result, causing a number of serious complications. However, Professor Holden and Dr. Cavanaugh won a moral victory, essentially moving the balance of power in their favor.
