Rigid contact lenses (RCL) are aimed primarily at people with astigmatism or a specific eye shape. LCDs are fundamentally different from soft contact lenses, and almost all the differences are for the better:

no soft lens, including silicone, can compare with a hard contact lens in terms of providing oxygen to the eye. In addition to having a high oxygen impermeability factor, LCD is very mobile on the eye, thereby adding even more oxygen through the tear duct;
LCDs automatically correct astigmatism up to CYL -3.0 D in vertical axes (most astigmatists);
evaporation of the liquid from the LCD does not affect its parameters in any way;
optics are constant and clear;
there are no gaps and discomfort in vision, unlike soft toric lenses;
LCDs affect tear thinning approximately 2-3 times less than soft contact lenses.

The main problem with hard contact lenses (in Ukraine) is the skill of selection (qualification of the doctor) and the skill of manufacturing lenses.

Vision correction with rigid contact lenses is widespread, mainly in technologically developed countries where the number of users reaches 50% (in Germany, for example, this number is 54%).
